
The Dutch settlement of New Amsterdam lasted only 40 years, but the incredibly motivated and progressive Dutch left an indelible mark on New York history and laid the cornerstone of America's financial foundation. And today the spirit of the past is felt among skyscrapers and modern buildings.
We will visit the oldest part of the city and walk along streets that have been around for about 400 years, the names and history of which reflect the Dutch and English colonial periods, as well as the American Revolutionary War. In doing so, we will visit many famous historical sites such as:
- Federal Hall - the place where the inauguration of the first president of America, George Washington;
- Battery Park with its memorials and military fort;
- the oldest Episcopal Church in New York - Trinity Church, or Trinity Church;
- Francis's tavern - its place and significance in the American War of Independence;
- building of the stock exchange, the most intensively working today;
- The Federal Reserve Bank of New York is where most of the world's gold reserves are stored.
We will also see what incredible changes are taking place in our time in Downtown - the financial center of New York. Many skyscrapers have become residential buildings, new restaurants and shops have opened. We follow the development and transformation of New York City from the 17th century Dutch mills to the present day.
